Usher, a prominent R&B artist of three decades, expressed gratitude for his professional path after accepting his award at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

He enumerated a number of his recent high points, such as his marriage, his sold-out residency in Las Vegas, the release of his ninth studio album, “Coming Home,” and his Super Bowl halftime show, which became the most viewed in the history of the event.

Colman Domingo, Fantasia Barrino, Halle Bailey, and Keke Palmer were defeated by Usher.

“I wonder how many people accomplish so much in one place,” the multiple Grammy winner said as Oprah Winfrey gave her the prize. He expressed his delight at Winfrey’s attendance and thanked all of his supporters throughout the years.

The artist addressed the crowd, saying, “This is for you, you, my number ones,” as they echoed what he had spoken. He sang the famous song “Superstar” from his 2024 album “Confessions,” which has sold more than 10 million copies in the United States, as his parting remarks.

Usher received the President’s Award earlier in the program in recognition of his accomplishments in public service via the New Look Foundation. He expressed gratitude to his mother and wife Jenn Goicoechea, whom he married during his halftime show at the Super Bowl last month, as well as other strong women in his life.

“A stronger woman is always behind, beside, or with every strong man,” he said.

The awards show was hosted by Queen Latifah and broadcast live on BET.

Best Motion Picture went to “The Color Purple.” A star-studded ensemble of actors and actresses, including Bailey, Corey Hawkins, Domingo, H.E.R., Danielle Brooks, and Barrino, appeared in the musical film.

The movie’s Celie, played by Barrino, took home the best actress in a motion picture award.

The singer-actor said, “I didn’t prepare a speech because I didn’t think I was going to win.” Although I was hesitant to play Celie, I’m pleased I did. Since I insisted on stating, “If I don’t win an award, the awards I will receive will come from the viewers of “Color Purple,” and the women who will identify with her and feel like Oscar winners when they leave.”

The Hall of Fame for the NAACP Image Awards welcomed New Edition. Those who are recognized as trailblazers in their industries and whose impact molded their careers are inducted.

Michael Bivins added, “We stand here in brotherhood,” with the other members of his group echoing him. Bobby Brown, Johnny Gill, Ralph Tresvant, Ronnie DeVoe, and Ricky Bell are among the Grammy-nominated quartet.

“You’ve read our narrative. You understand the struggles we’ve had,” Bivins said, discussing how the trio overcame strife and friction in their early years to go on to establish a Las Vegas residency.

He went on, “But we talk to each other every day.” “We communicate by SMS each day. We see how our family are doing. You saw us mature. We’re still expanding.

Damson Idris’ performance in “Snowfall” earned him the best actor in a drama television series award. For “The Color Purple,” Henson and Domingo won awards for best supporting parts. For his part in “Rustin,” Domingo was also awarded best actor in a motion film.
