After the World Cup, Ben Stokes will likely have knee surgery and miss the India trip

Ben Stokes, the important all-rounder for England and Test captain, has suggested that he may need knee surgery after the World Cup later this year, which might prevent him from participating on their tour of India in January to March 2024.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-167813″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-after-the-world-cup-ben-stokes-will-likely-have-knee-surgery-and-miss-the-india-tr-750×500.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com after the world cup ben stokes will likely have knee surgery and miss the india tr” width=”956″ height=”637″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-after-the-world-cup-ben-stokes-will-likely-have-knee-surgery-and-miss-the-india-tr-750×500.jpg 750w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-after-the-world-cup-ben-stokes-will-likely-have-knee-surgery-and-miss-the-india-tr-768×512.jpg 768w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-after-the-world-cup-ben-stokes-will-likely-have-knee-surgery-and-miss-the-india-tr-150×100.jpg 150w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-after-the-world-cup-ben-stokes-will-likely-have-knee-surgery-and-miss-the-india-tr.jpg 900w” sizes=”(max-width: 956px) 100vw, 956px” title=”After the World Cup, Ben Stokes will likely have knee surgery and miss the India trip 9″>

Following a request from England’s white-ball captain Jos Buttler, Stokes, who bowled only 29 overs in five Test matches this summer due to persistent tendinitis in his left knee, has decided to reconsider his decision to retire from international cricket for the 2019 World Cup.

There is a perception that Stokes, one of the architects of the Bazball cricket in Tests along with Brendon McCullum, would either play as a hitter for the five-Test trip of India early in next year or have surgery and miss the tour entirely. Stokes has decided to return for the World Cup just as a batter.

The words “World Cup” are quite inspirational, said Ben Stokes in his first public remarks upon his comeback to 50-over cricket following his World Cup performance for England in 2019. One of the major factors was entering with the possibility of winning back-to-back World Cups.

“There will be potential for something happening after the World Cup,” the 32-year-old said while discussing his intentions to manage his knee after the competition.

However, he said that given that England was preparing for a series of ODIs against New Zealand before to the World Cup, it was not the appropriate moment for him to make a choice.

“The World Cup is followed by a significant amount of downtime. I’ve been having some fruitful discussions with certain experts. A strategy is in place. There will come a day when I can explain what I’m doing when we take the necessary steps to give myself an opportunity to return to being a true all-rounder, he told the BBC on Thursday.

“I want to compete as a true all-rounder next summer. Playing in the World Cup this winter is the first priority, followed by treating his knee, he stated.

Despite the fact that there are two months between the World Cup and England’s tour of India, experts are reading his desire to get his knee fixed after the World Cup as a likely decision to forego the Test trip in favor of participating in the IPL and other activities.

Sokes will miss the IPL and the domestic season if he chooses to play the India tour only as a batter before having surgery.

After playing through discomfort during the Ashes series, Stokes admitted he had thought about giving up bowling completely. He also stated he was “very comfortable” with England players skipping Test matches in order to sign lucrative T20 contracts.
