After their shocking defeat to the minnows in the second T20 International on Saturday in Dubai, New Zealand batter Mark Chapman denied that they had treated the United Arab Emirates (UAE) lightly.

The visitors managed a below-par 142-8, which the UAE chased down with 26 balls remaining to secure their first win over New Zealand in any version of the game after barely averting a loss in the opening game on Friday.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-136257″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-after-a-shocking-seven-wicket-loss-in-a-t20i-mark-chapman-claims-new-zealand-underestimated-the-uae-image-4-750×500.jpeg” alt=”theindiaprint.com after a shocking seven wicket loss in a t20i mark chapman claims new zealand underestimated the uae image 4″ width=”1647″ height=”1098″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-after-a-shocking-seven-wicket-loss-in-a-t20i-mark-chapman-claims-new-zealand-underestimated-the-uae-image-4-750×500.jpeg 750w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-after-a-shocking-seven-wicket-loss-in-a-t20i-mark-chapman-claims-new-zealand-underestimated-the-uae-image-4-1024×683.jpeg 1024w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-after-a-shocking-seven-wicket-loss-in-a-t20i-mark-chapman-claims-new-zealand-underestimated-the-uae-image-4-768×512.jpeg 768w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-after-a-shocking-seven-wicket-loss-in-a-t20i-mark-chapman-claims-new-zealand-underestimated-the-uae-image-4-150×100.jpeg 150w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-after-a-shocking-seven-wicket-loss-in-a-t20i-mark-chapman-claims-new-zealand-underestimated-the-uae-image-4.jpeg 1200w” sizes=”(max-width: 1647px) 100vw, 1647px” title=”After a shocking seven-wicket loss in a T20I, Mark Chapman claims New Zealand underestimated the UAE 12″>

In the 12th over, New Zealand was floundering at 65-5 when Chapman, who led his team with a breezy 63, gave their total some respectability even if it ultimately wasn’t enough.

The UAE’s Muhammad Waseem (55), who is also the captain, and Asif Khan (48), who bats at number four, designed a methodical chase to produce their seven-wicket victory and tie the series at one.

After the defeat, Chapman told reporters, “I think we’ve seen associate cricket is going from strength to strength,” refusing to lower the bar in opposition to a side that was ranked 13 places lower than them.

“That was emphasized by certain associate countries defeating some test nations during the T20 World Cup in Australia.

“With some highly competitive local tournaments here, it’s really not surprising to see the way they’ve performed and the confidence they have.

It is creating some talented individuals.

Tim Southee, the captain of New Zealand, praised his rivals as well.

“The UAE team deserves a lot of the credit. In all three areas, they outperformed us, Southee said.

We made a couple errors that were identical to those from the previous day, and we were punished as a result. We definitely didn’t learn enough from that experience.

We just need to improve in each of the three categories.

Later on Sunday, the third and final T20 is planned.
